Colonial Gossip
Listen to a couple of colonials talk about their peers in 18th-century Annapolis! Servants were frequently sent to a tavern to “go sip”. This meant “Go sip on a beverage, listen to what others are talking about, and report back to me!”
Pay close attention to the conversation around you and you, too, may discover:
- Did someone prominent get booted from the Tuesday Club?
- Who drinks tea that was not smuggled in the proper manner?
- Whose wagers missed the mark at the Annapolis horse races?
- Who dared to entertain guests last evening with candles that gave off smoke?
- Did Mr. Paca just marry Ms. Chew for her money?
- My, oh my, what other juicy tidbits might you find out?
Be careful to mind your own P's and Q's - you never know who's listening nearby!
Join us in a casual setting where your colonial-clad companions share the “go-sip” experience with you. It's just a short stroll from our meeting location to our tavern where you, too, can go sip, listen and share!
